I know that sometimes I can demonize Cisco as some sort of “evil empire”. But you also have to try and give credit where credit is due as well. This Infosecurity magazine report talks about Cisco’s annual state of security report. You can download all 40 pages of the report here. Also there is a good YouTube explaining the highlights of the report at the bottom of this article.
I don’t think the report itself breaks any new ground in terms of what the threats are and what is driving them. As Hoff might say “yawn”. But it is not that any of this is groundbreaking. It is having it all put together in one place with some good metrics which is extremely valuable.
I like the stuff around social media, though the fact that Cisco was pushing the report via Facebook and Twitter is kind of ironic. I also like the stuff about Zeus. The South Florida ISSA had a meeting last month with some good stuff on Poison Ivy. Seeing how sophisticated these tools are is an eye opener for many.
Also being an awards freak, I like the awards for good guy and bad guys. Who won them? I guess you will have to read the report yourself to see.
So thanks Cisco for making the report available!
